Hmm

Why do I not remember this track in the slightest? Didn't sit at the main menu long enough apparently...

The track is okay, it's rather soothing and calming. The piano didn't quite seem to blend in as well as I would have liked it to. The melody really wasn't all that moving to me to be honest...a bit boring.

It certainly sounds very spacey, just not all that interesting, but it's a cover so fair enough. Can't really comment on how well the cover is because I don't remember it at all from the game....

:O

How could you not remember this track? *sobs* lol

Yes, I must work on my melodies! Thanks for the feedback!

Interesting

The intro to me sounded a bit generic and not all that moving. Especially with the bloopy choppy synth, it's just been done so many times. When the deeper bass came in it started to sound a lot better.

The song does indeed have a melancholy sound to in, it my opinion. It's weird though because it's like an almost upbeat melancholy....not sure how I feel about that.

The echoey trance synth was kinda cliche too. The pads were meh. The piano at the sounded really good though and I like the notes you chose and the melody, unfortunately though, that was the end.

Sounds a bit harsh, but to me it sounded really cliche and not all that moving. Musically it's good, and it was mixed well though. It's a great test track if you're just trying to make something musically sound, because this certainly is. It's just not as moving as I would expect. That or maybe it's too generic sounding for me.

Overall, an okay tune.

so thx for the :D review ^^

Nice

Pretty cool man. The percussion almost has a dnb feel at times, and it certainly has a twisted carnival feel to it. The song doesn't feel like it has much depth to it, but you did do some cool things here.

Oddly enough, at one point you made a high pitched sound that sounded exactly like something I put in one of my songs...crazy coincidence indeed.

The bass has an okay sound to it. Not really as powerful sounding as I think it could be. I think if you beefed up the bass line a bit, gave it some depth, it would sound way sicker.

The synths sound good, and the melodies were well thought out. No real criticism there.

Overall, the only think I'd like to hear is a nastier main bass line sound. Good tune nonetheless though, keep up the good work.

Psil0 responds:

Yeah, the bass line definitely need more attack and distortion to give it a grittier feel. I'll keep that in mind for the next song I make.

Nice

Well this song is just all over the place isn't it? Every measure I honestly had no idea what was coming next. I like the term frosty milkshake for this song quite a bit, seems fitting.

The beginning, after the strange clicky intro which was...different...was very pleasant sounding. The fast paced sound makes it kinda edgy and daunting while the main synth keeps it pleasant. A nice blend, imo.

The song takes a dramatic twist into a totally different pleasant beat, and then yet another dramatic twist again. I noticed 3 main completely different sounding parts overall.

The effect at 5:12 was awesome. Like the power almost went out on the machine playing the music and then came back or something. Just sounded cool. Automated BPM?

So the intro was awesome, outro was good, and the entire song was interesting as well. In contrast the single note bass lines aren't exactly my favorite though, and I will agree that there was one transition that didn't seem to flow 100%.

Overall a great tune minus a few things I noticed. Keep up the great work.

Dj-GST responds:

Thanks.

Yeah, the intro was done with a low cut filter, and BPM automation.

Thanks. Yeah it was done with automated BPM and automated pitch.

Sweet man, glad you liked it.

I will :)

Yeah

The siren is the sliding synth, I can hear it too, lol.

Not much criticism for this tune, it has a real full sound to it and I think the idea was good and it was executed well too. The bass has a real full sound to it, which is refreshing. The mixing is pretty much right on, in my opinion. I wouldn't change a thing about it. I think it was mixed very well.

Percussion was good, seemed to fit well. Not much else to say really...it's a great track keep up the great work.

FlamingFirebolt responds:

Yay for sliding synths i suspose.
About the full sound, it's possibly my best mix of a song yet. But i can't understand why. Maybe because the synths are fairly simple. I mean, the bass is , im pretty sure, 2 osc saws. That's it. 3xosc no less ^^. With a sidechain on the kick to avoid clashing.
Anyhow, thanks you liked it. I really had fun making this 2step/chiptune style song since it's so different then what i usually like. Thanks for both reviews RRC ( That means you too SCTE3 )

Beautiful

Well I certainly enjoyed the melodies a lot. It all seemed to flow very beautifully. The only issue I saw with it was the excessive reverb, maybe you could tone it down just a tad...

Female vocals could definitely improve the piece, but you'd have to find the right ones or it would ruin it. Could be difficult but could pay off. Something to consider at least.

As a standalone piece it works quite well though. Other than the sound quality not sounding 100% with the reverb drench, I think you hit the nail on the head with the melody and synth. Sounds great to me.

Keep up the good work

Better

Much better. I was wondering why the other version I reviewed first sounded so weird. This explains a lot. You recorded this, and then added the other stuff in, which is what it sounded like to me. It was overkill, imo.

This sounds much better by itself with the electronic noises. The vocals are questionable at times, but good at others. The screams are awesome, as usual.

This song is quite a journey as well. It seems to have different sections with different emotions within it.

There's still a lot of things that sound weird to me about this...random weird noises...seeminly obvious problems with vocals at parts...but overall this is much better sounding to me than the other one. It sounds more 'manageable' if that makes sense...

Pure-Metal-UTA responds:

Alright this helps me with the other version of this song. This tells me to take out the cellos from the metal version which may add onto the overkill. On top of that, the amp cord I used was pretty shotty which could have added unwanted buzz to the song as well.
Onto this song now though.
The vocals do suck, yes, I noticed many times where my voice would crack especially during the higher notes and at times where I'd try to change notes.
There are many different emotions to this song because of the story it revolves around, if you were to look up this song (Juliet by Sonata Arctica) on songmeanings.com you'll find that people really like to analyse the songs they listen to.
Thanks for the review, it was really helpful!

Love it

Very pleasant to listen to. Calming and soothing are two words that come to mind. Love to leave these playing while wandering around in MC.

I think your idea of a dubstep spin on this would be fantastic, and not really that hard to do either. I can already hear it working perfectly, and I think that would be a perfect 10 from me ;)

The intro is probably my favorite part of the song really. Just hearing the song start is like a refreshing wave of bliss washing over me. Fantastic work, keep it up. I'd love if you'd drop by if you do a dubstep remix of this.

-RRC-

KroweMusic responds:

I'm glad that you enjoyed it! A dubstep spin on this would be a bit challenging since its in 6/8, but I might try it out since I'm suffering from writers block at the moment :)

Thanks for the review!

And I'm assuming MC means Minecraft so YEAHHHHHHHHH GO MINECRAFT :D

meh

It's okay I guess, although there really doesn't seem to be a really catchy beat and the song is really short.

It almost sounds a bit industrial to me. If you really wanted to make this in to something I would consider extending it a bit first thing. It's just too short and simple the way it stands. I suppose it would be alright for a game menu or something, but it's just too short and simple for anything else in my opinion.

I would say maybe the loop could be used in a flash game but it's really not that pleasant to listen to either mostly because it just doesn't go anywhere.

Overall...I'd rate it as OK.

DXsamurai responds:

thanks for the review. i guess i could work on it.

Hmm

Well to be honest I just don't like it at all. Even if the effort was behind this I'd just abandon it where it stands. The vocals don't sound good to me at all, and at multiple points the song sound out of beat. Not only that but the song sounds like it needs some serious EQing at certain parts. It might just be me but it doesn't sound mixed right at all.

That might not be what you wanted to hear, but that's what I'm hearing. The screams were really good, and probably about the only part of the song that I enjoyed. The guitar and drums were decent, but with the electronic noises also playing it just seemed like too much. Maybe could be fixed with mixing, I don't really know to be honest.

There were a few parts of the song that I enjoyed, but overall I'd say the parts that didn't sound good to me outweighed them a lot in this song.

-RRC-

Pure-Metal-UTA responds:

Thanks! Also know that I'm willing to put in all the effort needed to perfect this.
I think I know exactly what you're talking about for everything you mentioned, so I'm going to ask some questions to pinpoint exactly what needs fixing.
1) Out of beat points: did you notice these mainly in the guitar and the violins contrasting with the drums?
2) EQing: are there parts where the violins seem to disappear? do you think the bass guitar could be louder? do you feel other parts should be brought out?
3) What do you mean by electronic noises, the orchestral VST or just noise?

Every little bit helps, and if these are the points that need to be fixed then I feel exactly the same way. The clean vocals will take time and practice to fix, and I know they do suck, but like I said, they're still a great improvement compared to how they were when I started this project.
Thanks for the review!
