Meh

It's an okay track but the main synth melody sounds out of sync with the drums...it feels out of beat. The synth around :30 sounds good and was a nice change though. When you added the percussion back in though, it sounded out of beat still...that certainly needs some tweaking in my opinion, because it just doesn't sound right.

The song has potential, but sounds like it needs a bit of work. I like the sounds you used, but they just don't seem to flow with the percussion at all. The hissing was a bit strange as well...

The ending sounds a bit unfinished as well. To me the whole song sounds like a work in progress really. If you clean it up a bit and add a proper ending this would sound much better.

Sorry

Sorry but this one really isn't for me at all. The drums sound really weak to me and the main melody seems repetitive and doesn't sound very pleasant to me. There were some good elements of the song, but I don't think it was mixed very well. The bass seemed distant from the melody and the drums had a very generic sound.

Like you said, 'hard for the ears', exactly. It's that coupled with the fact that it didn't really seem to change much throughout the song, or not enough to seem like it was getting anywhere to me.

There was some good percussion elements here, but I just don't think your focus was in the right place for this.

I might be able to see this is some old NES game, as it does sound a bit 8-bit appropriate somehow. Not my favorite, but keep it up.

Thanks for the review!

It's ok, I didn't ask anyone to like it, I just asked for criticism!
I know the flaws of the song, such as lack of EQing, and progression problems, but I didn't feel it would be right to change it, considering it was made for my friend who told me it was exactly what he wanted.

I'll still take note of your review for future pieces, wich hpefully will be a little less modal, for your own enjoyement.

Love it

Very jazzy and soothing. I let this play for about 15 minutes while playing a game and it really hasn't gotten old yet.

All of the instruments blend into a nice calming yet upbeat melody. My favorite part in this song would have to be the piano for sure. I'm also glad it's 3 minutes long and not like a 30 second clip ;)

Awesome work with this, keep it up.

Not bad

Not a bad song at all, the lyrics are good, as well as the mood you tried to set - I think you did a good job of it. It's a pretty long song too which is nice, it shows you actually put effort into it.

I can hear the queens of the stone age influences in here which is cool too.

I've had this song playing for like 20 minutes and it seems pretty bearable. I'm not sick of it yet, just been jammin out playin a game and it sounds good man.

Only thing I noticed is that I think you could have beefed up the percussion a bit. I think that would sound a bit better.

Keep up the great work.

hey thanks for the review....yeah the drums were made on the computer so thats why there a bit flat.

cheers!!

Beautiful piece

Once again, this piece should be integrated into Minecraft. I started this song, and I've been playing for at least 20 minutes without even realizing that this song was still playing. It's so peaceful and calming that it's just perfect for a game, especially like the one I'm playing.

The soft volume wasn't an issue for me at all, it just made the melody more soothing.

Dude...I just did it AGAIN. I started facebooking and another 10 minutes went by. I swear, I could just have this song playing all day long it's just so beautiful and not obnoxious in any way. 10/10 just for the sake of me listening to this and not getting tired of it for a half hour.

Keep up the amazing work.

haha, I personally hate listening to my own compositions, not because i hate them, but it makes me feel so self-centered. :D I still haven't played minecraft :(. Nice to know someone loves to listen to it. xD

Awesome!

I love the sound of this. Downloaded. Can't even think of any criticism for you really, the beat is really catchy and naive and innocent sounding. I think that's the first time I've labeled a character trait to a sound, but if naive had to sound some way, it would sound like the synth melody at :48. The warping of the melody is just great too. The background bass line is blended really well and just sounds awesome.

Sounds like you used a lot of automation in this, the one feature I don't have in FL :( I'm glad the song is three and a half minutes long at least. Lengthy enough to enjoy...as dirty as that sounds...awesome track, keep up the great work.

Nice

Love the IDM elements in this mostly. The percussion throughout the entire piece was nice to listen to. The piano melody was so-so. The song still seems a bit on the quiet side to me though.

I appreciate that the song is nice and long as well. The intro seemed to do justice for the melodies to come quite nicely. I didn't find the synth melodies to be overly catchy, but they did blend in well with the song. I think you could have a done a bit more mixing to make it sound more...blended but other than that it's not a bad tune.

Keep up the good work.

RetromanOMG responds:

I have to agree with you on the melody. I can't actually remember it unless I'm listening to the song, and that's probably because I made it such a small part of the song itself.

Not bad

It's actually pretty soothing to listen to, and I think the organ melody at the end was my favorite part about it. I think as far as what you were going for you pulled it off extremely well. The nervous parts certainly sounded nervous, and the calm parts were awesome.

The guitar parts weren't to my liking, but the organ solo was excellent. Especially the use of chords you used, loved it. The bass solo was meh, lol. Could have used a bit of work but it didn't sound out of place either.

Overall a decent tune, keep up the good work.

Birdinator99 responds:

Yes, bass soloing is clearly not my forte heh, but I'm glad you liked the organ :D

Rawr freakin' guitar lol.

Thanks for leaving your thoughts!

Not bad

The intro is decent, and sets the tone quite well for what's to come.

The build up to the main melody was done well, and the riffs you used are pretty catchy and show that some actual thought was put into them. While I'm listening to this I can't help but picture a space shooter flash game for some reason.

It's not a bad tune really, I actually kinda like it, the only thing that could really make this appeal more to me would be to extend the mix and maybe switch up the melody a little more dramatically in the extended part. It almost sounds like you didn't plan on stopping the song, you just gave up for some reason.

It doesn't sound like it has a proper ending, and there's no way you did that so it would loop because it doesn't sound like it would at all. So my advice would be to extend the mix a bit.

Overall a good track as it sits though. Keep up the good work.

Yeah, I never really... plan... these things. If I did I might get a better moving track I bet. The real deal is that I had to get back to work on my exams and stuff so that's pretty much what happened, I just stopped. I would like to re do the end bit, it kinda sticks out to me as having too little resolution for the whole minor tone of the piece anyway. I'm going to have to toss that to the wind though and hope it just kinda works out when I can work on it again. Thanks for pointing that out.
I mean, I knew it already, but I didn't think anyone would notice. :) So now I have a reason to go back and work some more.
Thanks for review!

Not bad

It's not really my favorite genre anymore, but I think you did a great job with this. In other words, I totally see what you were going for and I think you executed it rather well.

The song does have rather depressing feel to it, and the lyrics support that. The soft beginning worked pretty well, in my opinion. It set the mood perfectly. When the song picked up later on I didn't like it so much...it almost sounded like it wasn't mixed very well...or I was listening to a low quality song.

It was still okay, but I just don't think it was as good as it could have been. The vocals are good throughout the song though, especially in the beginning.

I agree about the drum criticism for the heavy part 100%. I think that would make it sound much better.

Keep at it.

horsebugger responds:

thanks for the review. yeah its defo the end section that i need to work on, and to be honest ive only done some basic panning and levels, so thats why it seems a bit low quality. hopefully iron these issues when i finish it.

thanks again
