Decent

I've said it before and I'll say it again, you have a good voice for storytelling. Would be great for e-books or the radio. There are a few really noticeable pauses in the recording that somewhat interrupt the flow of the story. Not badly, but they are there. It's mostly obvious by the static from the mic. I guess that leaves it up to you if you feel like investing in a high quality mic to record clips and send them to Newgrounds.

The story is meh. You nailed the voice acting pretty well but the repeating lines in this story just seemed kinda cheesy, mostly because the line wasn't really all that epic enough to be repeated, in my opinion. The clip is only about two and a half minutes and I'm sure there's a lot more that you could have read from the story. Maybe a 10 minute story with some sort of buildup and a climax would be nice to hear.

Overall a good piece. I think you can do better if you really want to, but nonetheless the piece is still enjoyable.

I'm getting there. On the audio front for 2011 is a mic stand and a pop guard. From there, I'd like to be able to record better, but I also need to learn how to edit the background noise out for balance with Audacity.

It's a work in progress, as my voice and the requirements are constantly evolving.

Nice

A little over 12 minutes long is plenty of time to get repetitive and I think you did a great job of avoiding that. The melodies are interesting and change often enough to manage avoiding it getting stale.

I think the transitions were incredibly smooth and pretty much unnoticeable. The whole song seemed to have a great flow and all the various instruments sounded very well tuned. I mean I even think I heard a saxophone at one point.

The percussion was interesting and kept me interested. The synths sounded good too. Not too sure what else to say. Love the mix, keep up the good work.

thanks!

that was indeed a saxaphone, the actual instrument is called "alto sax"

glad u like it :)

Nice

I did my old trick again when I find a good song. I let this loop for like 20 minutes while playing a game and totally forgot about it. Not once did it sound repetitive or irritating. It's a great house track with a lot of upbeat full sounding bass to keep you interested. The melody is constantly changing and doesn't really get old or stale fast.

I can't wait to hear the final product, I can't imagine it could get much better. It's a bit over 4 minutes which I really enjoyed, lots of variety. The only thing it left me wishing was that I had an album of this and that it skipped to the next track.

Keep up the amazing work.

:O

Thanks a lot for the feedback! Very nice to hear that you didn't find this repetitive or irritating :D I'm not usually too good at that :P

Also, I'm also a bit stuck on the final product, thinking of what to add at the moment.

Thanks a lot again for the review and comments :) Glad you enjoyed it.

Decent

The musical skill behind this is definitely there, I love the percussion. Throughout the entire song the percussion was well thought out and really interesting to listen to.

The vocals on the other hand honestly seemed a bit obnoxious. I honestly had to turn down the volume twice because I couldn't listen to the ear piercing yelling. It's far from melodic.

It's face paced, it's brutal, and without melody. The effects are great, and the drums are sick, but overall it's not something I'd ever listen to voluntarily. The effort and skill shine through, but I just found it a bit too extreme for my tastes.

The popping noises panned to the right channel at the end were awesome, and the idm elements throughout the song is what I liked the most. Overall though, I feel that this song would only really be appropriate when flying with a jetpack at full speed while firing a machine gun.

Dj-GST responds:

Sweet :)

Haha the vocals aren't weren't meant to be melodic, just to back up the drums a bit :P

Yeah, this style isn't for everybody.

Thanks, those popping noises are actually heavily vocoded and sliced vocals :) I totally agree with the jetpack thing :D

Thanks for the review man, if I make an extended mix I'll work on the vocals a bit.

Just awesome

I don't even know what to say. I remember your name though. I don't think this is the first song of yours that I've downloaded.

The vocals mix perfect. Your percussion is awesome...just awesome. The bass has a really full sound to it. The weird instruments and effects you used just sound great and far beyond my personal skills as a musician. To say the least I'm impressed.

This is a great listen. Really the only criticism that I have is that I wish it was longer. Songs like this are the reason I continue to review music. Finding a gem hidden among the masses without a single review. Keep up the amazing work.

Naerbu responds:

It's good to know people are enjoying my songs.

I've actually been working on expanding the length of my songs (compared to my other works).

Thanks for the review, dude. I'll try to make future songs longer.

Not bad

The voice acting is very good. The emphasis on the word crazier is a bit extreme for sure. I would rework just that one word for sure, because it doesn't seem to match the tone of the rest of the voice acting and makes it seem like you're not being serious about it.

Other than that it was pretty solid. There did seem to be a slight issue with the volume when the song comes in after the last line. Not sure I can tell exactly why but I think it could be cleaned up a bit to sound like it flows better.

I can't really give you any credit for the audio track because it's not yours, but I will admit it was a perfect choice for the voice acting. It matches perfectly.

Overall an interesting listen though. Keep up the great work.

Good

Parts of this almost remind me of a really old western comedy movie with no sound or something. I'll agree that this song really is a tad overwhelming. Extremely creative for sure.

As far as practicality goes, I really can't see myself ever listening to this in my house or in the car....but it would be an AWESOME candidate for flash movies/games.

The melodies are intricate and well thought out. The bass line almost reminds me of Banjo Kazooie from N64. I'm sure that wasn't intended, just fyi, lol. All the instruments blend together extremely well.

The song does seem to lack a certain depth I can't quite put my finger on though. As if there's a fullness to it missing...but maybe that's the sound you were going for.

Overall a good well produced track. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the great review!

Lol, you're right to think of silent movies when you hear this, because it does kind of sound like ragtome, the style usually used.

Can't blame you for not wanting to listen to this in your car, it does get annoying after a while, thought i listen to almost ALL my songs when I take the city bus to get to school...

As for the base line, I've never really played banjo Kazooie, thought I kind of get the feel.

As for the overall depth, I think what's lacking is mid-range filling. Everything's either really loud and high-level, or low-leveled, but nothing stands out in the middle, since the only thing in the middle is the honky-tonk, wich is really too soft.

Anyways, thanks again for the review!

Not bad

More commercial? lolwut. I think it sounds pretty original and I'd advise against trying to sound commerical. Ever.

I like the sound of the synths quite a bit, the piano blends with them well. Everything blends well together. I was listening to this for about a minute and I couldn't help but start bobbing my head to it - for what that's worth.

The bass line doesn't sound trendy for some reason, even though it is a single note bass line, it has a nice deep sound to it and it mixes with the percussion very well.

Overall a great tune. Too bad it's not longer :/ Keep up the good work.

Decibel responds:

Lol yeah, but everyone hahs they're own opinion :)

Oh mai gawsh, SeeD419 actually bobbing his head to a song :P I'm glad you like, you never gave me a rating higher than an 8 though :P

Bassline? Don't even think I have one, you're probably talking about the ongoing, 4-note pluck melody, Although, I like it a lot :P

Thanks for the review mate, look forward to some great tracks very soon :)

[deciBel]

lol

Well, it certainly is short and simple. I'll agree that it definitely has a Poke Center feel to it. Seems to loop well enough.

The piano has a real good sound to it and the melody sounds great. My only real complain is its simplicity and lack of anything beyond like :50

Idk if this itself could really be Poke Center music though, as the piano sound really clear and crisp. It has a realistic sound to it and not so much a video game sound.

Nonetheless it's a nice little loop, keep up the good work.

thatbennyguy responds:

Hey SeeD thanks for you contribution

Yeah it's not really a poke center tune... but's it's inspired by such... that and baroque classical piano

Thank you

Benjamin

Awesome

I can't help but think I've heard the first theme before. It sounds so familiar, but either way you did a fantastic job creating it. The instruments sound great and the melodies were very pleasant.

The second part certainly sounded middle-eastern, but had a touch of circus sound to it at one point.

The third blended well and was great for an outro.

Overall a very pleasant tune to listen to.

camoshark responds:

Thanks alot for the great review!

The reason the first theme sounds so familiar is obviously because I posted a demo version of the same song a few weeks ago!

Thanks for the liking, I'm glad you enjoyed!
